At the beginning of term, we spent the first few weeks focusing on wellbeing. We read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ which links feelings and emotions to different colours.
The children worked well when explaining their emotions as colours and even learnt a song to help them sort their emotions. The children loved the story and they completed many tasks such as designing and making their own colour monster puppet.
After that, we received some exciting news in the post; a baby star was delivered to our class because it had fallen from the sky and needed looking after. The children named the star Blaze and they enjoyed learning about star constellations, the first moon landing and all about astronauts. They created some beautiful pieces of art linked to this topic.
In November, the children were shocked to discover footprints and a barrel of gunpowder had been left in their class along with some clues. The children acted as detectives to search for clues and investigate further by using different sources such as books and the internet to find out what happened in the Gunpowder Plot. The children wrote some excellent information pages that explained the actions of Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night each year.
Christmas festivities began in December with the arrival of Elfie, our cheeky class elf! We watched the Christmas advert called ‘Mog’s Christmas Calamity’ and learnt how to plan and conduct an interview, the children wrote some fantastic interview questions to ask Mog the cat. What a busy and fun filled term we have had!
We will be starting our new topic- Dinosaur Planet.
