Guided Reading sessions start our Literacy lessons. We read to the teacher in small groups before completing reading test questions which include multiple choice, ordering events and true or false and we also complete Higher Order Thinking questions to ensure we understood what we have read. Alongside these tasks we practise our handwriting, dictionary skills and complete fun literacy tasks such as codebreakers and wordsearch tasks.
At the beginning of this term, we chose to read Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is a brilliant criminal mastermind and if the rumours are true, he is behind pretty much every major crime of the new century. However, in this book he makes a big mistake when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit, while trying to steal a stash of fairy gold. These fairies are dangerous as they don’t play by the rules!
Throughout the term, we will develop a wide range of skills through creating fictional writing, such as stories and poems, informative non-fiction writing, such as letters, reports, producing drama activities and preparing reading responses on the characters and themes of the story.
